Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for more than 20 years. She is well-known as a public speaker. She founded Feminist Frequency which provides commentary and videos on depictions of women's roles in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic and blogger. Feminist Frequency is an educational site for non-profit organizations that investigates representations of women in popular culture narratives. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes of women as they are portrayed in popular media. Additionally she has a mission to increase awareness of online harassment directed at women, and other those who are marginalized. Sarkeesian is a graduate in the fields of social thought and political science at York University. She is also a highly-respected public speaker. Sarkeesian has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO Fest and United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was fascinated by feminist issues, gender and gender equality from a very early stage of her life. In 2009, while continuing to study at the university level she started the Feminist Frequency website. The ambitious lady planned to start a web-based series on the gender roles in video games. She found herself the target of an online harassment campaign. She was not deterred by the assault, the fact is that it only bolstered her drive to become a media critic and feminist. In recognition of the many achievements she's made for feminist movements, she has been awarded numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winner for her media criticism and is the founder of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization that explores the representations of women in popular culture stories.
